Nel 1927, in Louisiana, in un albergo considerato maledetto perché costruito sopra una delle “sette porte dell’Inferno” un pittore viene ucciso dalla folla inferocita perché accusato di stregoneria. Nel 1981 Liza, una disegnatrice di moda, ha ereditato quell’albergo e parte da New York per prenderne possesso. Al suo arrivo in paese, una veggente cieca la avverte: il luogo è maledetto e farebbe bene ad andarsene prima possibile. Ma Liza è una donna pragmatica, e non crede a queste superstizioni. Ma presto dovrà ricredersi.
