Nel 1896, nella zona di confine che divide il Messico dagli Stati Uniti, è caduta la neve. I numerosi fuorilegge che vivono alla macchia, in cima alle montagne, muoiono per il freddo e per la fame e come i lupi sono costretti a scendere a valle. Di ciò ne approfittano i bounty killer che, spesso, uccidono per una taglia di pochi dollari. Il più feroce tra questi è Tigrero. Ma come rimedio all’ingiustizia di questi avidi esecutori, da qualche tempo, si è levato un uomo che, per essere muto, è da tutti chiamato Silenzio. Egli riceve da una certa Pauline il mandato di vendicarle il marito, ucciso dallo stesso Tigrero.
